Your MPAN, MPRN and supply numbers
The MPAN (electricity) and MPRN (gas) uniquely identify your supply. Any accurate quote depends on them being correct — check them against a recent bill before you request comparisons.
Consumption in kWh
Suppliers price you on kilowatt-hours consumed. Add the last four quarters together to get your Annual Quantity (AQ) — the single most important number for a like-for-like quote.
Charges block
Look for unit rate, standing charge, climate change levy (CCL), and any non-commodity or pass-through lines. VAT sits below the subtotal and is usually 20% for commercial supplies.
Meter reads vs estimates
'E' next to a read means it was estimated. Estimated bills can be materially wrong — submit an actual read each quarter or move to a smart meter to fix it.
