Profile classes 1–4
Smaller sites sit on profile classes 1–4. Suppliers estimate your consumption shape using a national profile, then reconcile against your quarterly reads. It's simple, but it can mask peaks and off-peak troughs.
Profile classes 5–8 and HH
Larger sites (or anyone above 100 kW peak) sit on HH — half-hourly — metering. Every 30 minutes of consumption is recorded and settled individually, giving suppliers a precise picture and often a tighter price.
What P272 changed
The P272 reform moved every profile class 5–8 site onto mandatory HH settlement. If you were on PC 05–08 before 2017, you are now HH-metered and priced on actual shape data.
Getting the most from HH data
Ask your supplier or broker for your HH data as a CSV. Peak-hour consumption above 4pm–7pm is the most expensive to serve — shifting even 10% of it can move your bill materially.
